Who Are We

Salva Tres Palmas is dedicated to protecting and preserving the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve (Reserva Marina Tres Palmas, RMTP)one of Puerto Rico’s most cherished natural treasures.

Established in 2004 through grassroots activism led by local non-profits, Surfrider Foundation, fishers, surfers and community members, the Reserve was legally protected under Ley 17 and remains a sanctuary for marine life, surfers, and ocean lovers alike.

Home to seven endangered coral species, world-class snorkeling, and the legendary Tres Palmas surf break, the Reserve is co-managed by the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) and the Tres Palmas Management Board, (Amigos de Tres Palmas), following a conservation plan developed in 2008.

The plan was simple: maintain and protect the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve as a community.

Since 2007, the same activists joined by a new generation of community members have played a key role in ensuring the ongoing protection of this vital ecosystem.

Salva Tres Palmas continues this mission—advocating for responsible stewardship and transparancy, fostering community engagement, delivering real time/up to date, un-biased information, and safeguarding the future of this iconic marine reserve for generations to come.
